Cut the Vat – the campaign continues

At a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, and Lib Dem Leader, Nick Clegg, Iain Donaldson today pressed again for the reduction of VAT on maintenance and repairs of buildings to be cut to 5%.

Iain has campaigned for this move for nearly 20 years, stating that “This is about helping householders to maintain and improve energy efficiency in their homes, reducing the pressure on greenfield sites, and most importantly about boosting local jobs both in the building industry and in local manufacturing here in the UK.”

Mr Clegg confirmed that the Government is looking seriously at how this measure could be taken forward, but pointed out that it would cost around a billion pounds to take it forward.
