In the past few years we have seen the credibility of British animal produce rise substantially thanks to improved husbandry.
Even British veal is now making a come back with the massive campaign to make milk-production calf-neutral combined with the far superior living conditions offered to British calves being reared for meat.
Unfortunately the same can not be said for much of the animal produce imported from other countries, even inside the EU, and as a net importer of foodstocks we have the power to ensure that animals reared for food in countries supplying the UK receive the same high standards of husbandry as they would if they were reared here.
There is a petiton on the Government’s website calling for an equalised playing field for British farmers when it comes to meat production, and it is calling for action the right way, that meat imported to this country must be raised to the same high standards as if it had been raised here.
It is time to ensure that British farmers are given a level playing field, and so I urge anyone and everyone to back this petition.
