Minimum wage is not enough to live on in Greater Manchester

Fascinating decision by the Trafford Conservatives, a flagship Tory borough in the north of England, who have decided that the national minimum wage is not enough for people in their borough to live on. This follows the identical move earlier in the month by Manchester City Council (although Manchester has had the policy in place for several years with cross party support).

The key point is that both Labour and Conservative councils now support a regional minimum wage of around £ 13,000, which brings them both in line with Lib Dem policy for a regional minimum wage, and with Lib Dem aspirations for the minimum wage to be a living wage.
