Allotment: for once Winter started with frost and ice

Well, winter is officially here and boy can you tell it.  The frost was on the ground all day and there were three inches of ice at the top of the water barrel.

With the ground too frozen to dig, today on the allotment was spent taking down the stakes for the peas and beans, taking the netting off the asparagus bed and moving the herbs into the greenhouse for the winter.

Hopefully the frost will mean that within a week or so the area where I want to build the wintering shed will be ready for clearing. Once it’s clear I can put down sand in the base build the frame for the shed and then put some walls and roof on before laying the concrete. If I can also manage to put a fire in it then I can heat it during the winter and that should extend the growing season somewhat.
